Khajuraho, Dreams on Stones!

The fascinating temples of Khajuraho,  in the state of MP,India were built between 950 and 1050 A.D. The divine sculptures in these temples, are a tribute to Life itself, embodying everything that is sublime and spontaneous about it. The murals depict the life and times of the Chandelas, and celebrate the erotic state of being.
They not only testify to the mastery of the craftsman, but also to the extraordinary breadth of vision of the Chandela Rajput Kings under whose reign, these temples were constructed. Around the temples are bands of exceedingly fine and artistically carved stonework. Every aspect of life has been sculpted. More importantly it is a celebration of woman’s beauty. Busty and extremely well proportioned  figures, pouting expressions, sensuous poses... they all suggest the importance given to the well being and love of life.
Khajuraho The zenith of sensuality and frozen ecstasy, Khajuraho's erotic art clearly reflects the then society’s belief in Tantrism; which believes in the acceptance of sex as a source of gratification of earthly desires,  and as a step towards attaining ultimate liberation or moksh. -  the final aim of life!!
